    • Poetry
    • Short stories
  • Speaking and Listening:
    • Group discussions
    • Short speech
    • Listen to read aloud texts and retell
  • Read and comprehend text:
    • Foundations and Frameworks units (F & F): Our reading program teaches the essential skills needed for comprehension in a unit-by-unit structure. Instruction is taught in small reading groups, utilizing visual tools, vocabulary instruction, group projects, and assessments.
    • Read grade level fictional and nonfictional texts, poetry, dramas, novels, short stories, autobiographies, biographies and speeches with the purposes of retelling, summarizing, and interpreting the texts
  • Identify and define literary terms and vocabulary:
  • Define Latin and Greek root words and give examples of English words based on them
  • Recognize troublesome grade level words; spell and use them correctly
  • Grammar and Usage
  • Understand what a complete sentence is
  • Identify different types of sentences: simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences
  • Correctly use punctuation: semi-colons, and commas in the place of conjunctions to form a compound sentence

History and Geography

  • The Cold War, Civil Rights Movement, The Vietnam War
  • Geography of Middle East, Canada, and Mexico
  • Civics

Mathematics

  • Develop higher-order problem-solving skills
  • Algebra: linear equations, graphs, quadratic equations
